In the recent few years internet marketing has matured from the buzzword to the byword of online business community. Internet marketing has brushed aside the conventional marketing tips and tricks and maneuvered businesses to get customers galore.

As it’s apparent from the phrase itself ‘internet marketing’ means leveraging the benefits of internet to promote and sell one’s product online. However, in this course of promotion it’s necessary to increase website’s overall visibility on the internet.

It is unreasonable to define internet marketing in a couple of words as it means different things to different people. In essence, internet marketing is a much broader domain that entails various other marketing models.

Experts categorize internet marketing into six primary sectors i.e. search engine marketing, search engine optimization, link popularity and link building, content development or copywriting, directory submission and website submission on the search engines. Other features that can be leveraged for successful internet marketing are PPC an acronym for pay-per-click and e-mail blasting.

Thus, internet marketing is a multidimensional concept that with the ingenious unison of aforesaid components can do wonders. Internet marketing entwines the creative intellect (like copywriting, designing) and technical expertise ( SEO and Link building) that facilitates business’s overall growth on online media. In a nutshell it builds and promotes the services/products online.

Copywriting can be rightly termed as the essence of internet marketing. It is the most essential tool at the end of marketers that propels customer’s buying action. While the importance of other components cannot be denied, copywriting remains the lifeline of internet marketing.

So once your site is live on the web, with results driven internet marketing methods placed strategically, the success is on the cards. Thus the bottom-line remains, if you want to mark a global footprint, internet marketing is your mantra to quick success.

When building incoming links to your site, it is important to remember that not all links are created equal. And the Google pagerank of the site linking to you is far from the only factor.

It is a well-known fact, for example, that links coming from blogs are especially helpful in improving your rankings. What most people don’t know is why exactly that is the case.

One must realize that one of the most powerful types of link exchanges known to man is a site-wide sidebar exchange between two SEO blogs, also known as a blogroll exchange. Such an arrangement, in effect, creates the potential for each party to receive hundreds (or even thousands) of relevant backlinks. This is due to the fact that each and every page of Site A links to the homepage of Site B, and vice versa. As you can see, an exchange like this between two very large sites can be of great benefit to both of them.

Another much smaller scale type of blog link is a simple reference from another post. These usually aren’t part of a reciprocal agreement, and might at first glance, appear to be quite minor. In truth, however, these links carry a lot of weight, due to their high level of relevance.

I mean, think about it for a minute. Most bloggers won’t link to another post unless it’s clearly related to what they’re writing about. And links from highly relevant content-based pages are going to be valuable assets, regardless of pagerank, etc.

So, having read my overwhelmingly positive description of blog links, you may be anxious to get out there and acquire a few for a blog of your own. It’s important to realize, however, that in order to receive favorable results, you will need to have a good base of quality unique content.

My advice would be to continually write relevant and useful content, while submitting to RSS directories, etc. If people read your material and find it useful, some of them will likely link to it, and that’s where the fun begins.

As you publish more content and get more links, you will eventually become a trusted source within your industry. At that point, you should start contacting the owners of related sites, and politely asking for blogroll exchanges. As you amass such exchanges, you will notice your search engine ranking (and traffic) slowly but steadily move upwards, to previously unattainable levels.

Just remember the basic theory behind it though. Quality content comes first, then links will begin to form naturally. For those who have knowledge, and are willing to work to articulate it, blogs are perhaps the easiest medium to express ideas, and attain back links.

A new search engine marketing study performed by JuniperResearch and iProspect suggests that most internet marketers see a higher ROI from organic search engine optimization than from pay-per-click advertising.

The study focused on firms that outsource their organic SEO and at the same time purchase PPC advertising, and discovered that 35% of these firms had a better average return from SEO, as opposed to 11% from PPC.

The study also found that more than half of marketers who fit into the above sample don’t have a clear method of determining which channel (SEO or PPC) gives them a better ROI. Although most firms do track the combined results of all search engine traffic, many fail to distinguish between the two distinct channels.

So we all know that the title is the most important single element to optimize on a page, but it’s all to easy to forget the power of headings. Headings are like little titles that can be worked into a site’s content, and while no one heading can affect rankings as much as your title, having several keyword rich headings on your page can be an extremely powerful optimization strategy.

It is important to remember that there are actually six different kinds of headings ranging from H1 to H6. H1 tags have the most effect on your ranking followed by H2, and so on. To turn a piece of text into a heading you simply need to place it between <h*> and </h*> tags

A word of caution, however: it’s not a good idea to overuse headings on any one page as search engines might see this as spam. I n the vast majority of cases, you should be using only one H1 tag per page, and include at least two paragraphs of content for every H2 tag.

Overall, heading optimization is just a matter of common sense. Just write a good page of content, then spread a few relevant, keyword rich heading tags throughout your page, and your search engine ranking should be affected for the better.

‘How do i write content for SEO?’ or ‘How do i optimise my content for the search engines?’

Its not something, i’d really spend too much time thinking about, a naturally written article, with a few or no SEO considerations is likely to actually be the most optimised article, not least because its likely to flow and read much better for your visitors.

Some people worry about targetting an article to a specifically targetted phrase, spending time worrying about having a certain keyword percentage, worrying if they’ll be penalised for this or that, do they have too high a keyword percentage or worried that they won’t rank well if they only mention their keyword once or twice in an article, its just counter productive.

I’d love to be proved wrong, but try it for yourself, trying firing off an article about a subject you have a knowledge about, now trying writing another article but ‘deliberately’ optimise it, sticking to a certain keyword percentage, studying possible long-tail search phrases to include within the article, how long does the second article take to write compared to the first?

Which performs better in the search engines? Which is more optimised? and which is more SEO friendly?

After an unusually long time, it appears Google is updating its PageRank and Backlink measures according to many website owners.
Google’s PageRank and Backlink count are are key measures Google uses to determine its search engine rankings. While many skeptics believe PageRank is an irrelevant indicator, its hard to dismiss it when Google continues to promote as a pivotal measure of a site’s ranking potential - and Top Google rankings = Better website traffic.
Did you notice something different on my this domain? I mean the PageRank icon at Google toolbar above!

It is showing a PageRank of 3 out of 10. I know, I know there is nothing to boast around with just a PR 3 but I am really happy about it. I was like waiting for so so long, finally I got ranked by Google within 3-4 months. I still remember a few weeks back, how I’d always check my Pagerank and worried why I am still not ranked (N/A) by Google. But now, I am relieved but I will keep on working on this blog and target a higher PageRank on the next update.

And most importantly,

Thanks to my readers, visitors and drop-byers. It is you that keep this blog growing !!

Google will update the PageRank once in a while hence we would have no idea when it is going to update again.

The higher the PR of your site the higher will be its search engine position. So the goal is to get lots of sites linking to your site. But quality is much more important than quantity. The higher the PR of the sites that link to yours the more they boost your sites PR.

When planning your effort, always remember than one link from a PR-6 or PR-7 site is worth indefinitely more than hundreds of links from PR-0 or PR-1 sites.

In addition, you should aim to include your link on pages with as few other links as possible. Pages with over 25 links have little value. Additional factors that go into the algorithm include the amount of different sites that point to yours (10 links from 10 different sites count much more than 10 links from the same site) and the inclusion of your keywords in the text of the links.

As a general rule of thumb, a one-way, high PageRank link will give your site a PR two points below that of the linking page. So a link from a PR-8 site should get your site a PR-6. However, at the lower end of the scale, I have seen a PR-5 turn a new PR-0 site into a PR-4.

The effects of having a high PageRank (PR)

Most industries, market niches and business sectors only have a PR5 or PR6 site as the top ranking result. The implication is that you can dominate a niche or local market on search engines without investing too much money or time. For example, you can buy keyword rich text links on networks of sites that have a PR of 8-9 for $ 500-2,000 a month. Doing this is likely to get you a PR of 6 or 7 right out the gate. The implication is that your site will appear as number one when users search Google for key phrases related to your market niche.

Where to start

Before starting to actually work on improving your PR, be sure to install the Google Toolbar on your browser. The Toolbar shows a value (on a log scale) of 0-10 for each website that corresponds to the underlying PR of that page. The average website with little or no marketing support is typically PR1 to PR3. Google is updating the PR level it displays in the Google Toolbar about once every three months so patience is required until you can see the results of any PR building campaign.

So you want to get ahead of the competition on the search engines, and you decide to use a link farm. Stop! There’s danger in link farms as with all SEO methods that seem to good to be true. Your website shouldn’t link to, or be linked from, websites with any of the characteristics of link farms. Link farms are web sites that have been set up for no reason other than to contain masses of links, exploiting search engines’ link popularity algorithms. They serve no real purpose, other than getting everyone who joins to link to and from them and boosting the rankings of everyone involved. This is a big problem, as most people consider it to be nothing more than search engine ’spam’. Do not get link farms confused with directories which are excellent places to get your site listed. The difference here is that a directory attempts to provide its users with a nice organized way to get to the information that they want while a link farm simply posts a ton of links (generally at cost to the linkee) and serves no purpose to anybody on the web. Remember: the number of links to your site isn’t as important as the quality of those links. You’re trying to get people with real, quality sites to link to you. There are even rumors (which are being validated daily) that Google is implementing a quality control algorithm for links which includes the amount of time that a link has existed between two sites as well as the reputations of the two sites based on how many links they send out. For example, if you have a link from a site that only links to three sites all together and this link has stood strong for months, Google will consider it a valuable link. On the other hand, if you get linked to by a site with a massive number of links, Google could care less. Remember, Google is the Santa Claus of the internet, it’s always watching.

So for newbies and those others who may not yet know, you can obtain essential information For website just about anywhere in the Internet. However, very few sites will really show you how to resolve an affordable search engine optimization plan. There are some tricks which may help you for your site presentation.

1) Meta Tag - As long as SEO experts have been publishing advice about things like meta tags, it was interesting to see perceptions of proper meta tag use were as varied as the respondents. For meta keywords google and msn don’t seem to use it however yahoo does

The title tag, ALT tagsand some other useful Tags are the most powerful on-site SEO technique you have, so use it creatively! What you place in the title tag should only be one thing, the exact keyword you used for the web page that you are trying to optimize. Every single web page should have it’s own title tag.

2) Link Popularity - Link Popularity is simply a way to measure the total number of links that a search engine has found for your website. Link Popularity is getting more important all the time.It means when a 3rd party site links to your site. If abc.com linked to your site, this is considered a link. When you receive requests for a link exchange, check the site out before linking with them, check for spam (Repeat keywords, hidden text, etc.).

3) Keyword Density - The number of times a keyword is used on a web page divided by the total number of words on the page.It is called “Keyowrd Density”. This is also vital and should be used with research. You should use the keyword(s) once in the title tag , heading tag, bold text, and get the density between 5% to 20% (Don’t over do it!). Also use your keyword(s) both low and high on the web page, keyword(s) should be in the first sentence and in the last one.

4) Page Size - Your web page’s speed is important to your visitors and the search engines. Why? Because the robots will be able to spider your web page faster and easier. Try your best to keep your web page over 5k and under 15k in size.

5) Rich Theme - Search engines are looking at themes more and more. Build content (Articles, FAQ, tips, etc.) much as possible and keep the web pages around 200 to 500 words. Create content that’s related to your market and link them out to other related content on your site. Try to get 200 web pages or more.

6) Web Site Design - This is also important, if you want to get indexed! Text content should out weigh the HTML content. The pages should validate and be usable in all of today’s leading edge browsers. Stay away from flash and Java Script, search engines dislike them both a lot.

7) Insite Cross Linking - This will help you get all of your web pages indexed by the search engines. Your web pages should be no more than three clicks away from the home page. On every page you should link back to your home page and your main service(s).
